Nipsey Created A Plan To Help Buy Back The Block & Create Incentives For New Minority Investors!

Nipsey Hussle

Eric Holder may have taken Nipsey Hussle from us, but he didn’t take away his impact. While alive Nipsey and his business partner real estate developer David Gross, the prolific rapper envisioned an economic-based movement called “Our Opportunity” similar to the Black Lives Movement!

According to Gross, the Our Opportunity fund would assist local born and raised neighborhood investors “of every large, majority black city to, in a systematic way, acquire and develop transformative projects.” Nipsey was scheduled to meet with California Senator Tim Scott to discuss the use of a program known as Opportunity Zones.

The fund would give tax incentives to investors allowing them to defer capital gains taxes for up to 10 years if they invest in communities neglected in the recovery from the 2008 Recession. Nipsey‘s hometown Hyde Park had been designated as an Opportunity Zone, and inspired Nipsey and Gross to launch the program.

“I was excited when I learned of his interest in Opportunity Zones,” Scott said in a written statement. “And I’m saddened that we will never get to discuss our plans and vision for what this initiative could do to partner with and strengthen Nipsey’s already amazing efforts.”

His business partner Gross and Nipsey’s other investors still intend to launch the “Our Opportunity” fund. Nipsey was determined to help communities in Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
